“You can’t turn around twice these days without someone telling you about their latest robbery/swarming/saw-a-fight-at-Pizza-Corner story.” Notes the author of a recent post on NewHalifax Magazine. “Some people say it’s only a problem around the Commons, others say it’s a Dartmouth thing, still others believe that Spring Garden Road is the most dangerous place in the city.”
“Problem is, with so many rumors floating around about which areas are ‘safe’ and which aren’t, how do you really get about without becoming paralyzed by the thought of the next unknown corner? Wouldn’t it be nice to have some way to know where bad things are really going down so you could, you know, not be part of bad things going down?”
“Maritime Crime.org is a new website which takes crime data off the HRM Police website, wraps it up in some Google Map positioning, and gives a handy graphical guide to what took place where (at least as reported to the police). Checking it out should turn up some surprising results. While not every crime in the city is up there (because not every crime gets reported to the cops) MaritimeCrime.org at least turns what is reported into useful information for me and you. Check it out.”
