The verdict was in yesterday on Lafleure for his role in the Liberal Sponsorship Scandal. Despite his letter to the Judge proposing to pay his ‘debt to society’ in time instead of money, Judge Suzanne Coupal slapped him with a 42-month jail sentence AND ordered him to repay $1.6 Million of the money he invoiced to the government in fraud.
I guess he felt he atleast had to try and negotiate. Once a businessman, always a businessman. Too bad Canadian tax payers want their money back.
Don’t worry, Mr. Lafleure! The National Post reports that in the case of white-collar crime, Lafleur could be eligible for parole in seven months after serving one-sixth of his 42-month sentence as of Wednesday.
