So, you have a Facebook account to stay in touch with your friends, a LinkedIn account for your business, a Flickr account for photos, and a MySpace account for feedback on your ‘SoundForge/AcidLoops’ amateur electronic music creations posted under your “DJ Sphynxxx“ online alias.
Those are just four networks if you are male. But, statistically speaking, you will have 8 networks to manage if you’re a female. Females belong to twice as many social networks than males do, according to information from this Business Week article. However, the average number for anyone is 5 networks.
Groovy! But, checking all these social networks can eat up quite a chunk of precious time. Time you can be using to create other profiles and joining additional online social networks (or doing other productive things, like work).
A number of online services, called ‘aggregators’, are available to help you manage multiple profiles from one location. The upside is that you don’t have to log in to check each site individually. All updates can be viewed in one site. Unfortunately, you can’t post or update your info on the individual sites from the aggregator site. Social networks block that kind of access to force users to log into their accounts in order to create the traffic necessary for advertising revenue.
Some aggregators that were mentioned in the Business Week article are SocialURL, ProfileLinker, and Dandelife. Check the websites for information and instructions on how to use the services to manage your online life. I know I will!
